I have much respect for Mike Huckabee, not only in terms of trying to be as unbiased as is possible for a McCain surrogate, but also for his work as governor of Arkansas. He doesn't appear to be the "typical" conservative Christian Republican which appeals to me as a Christian (and an Obama supporter). I think he would have actually done a better job of unifying the Republican candidate early on than John McCain.
...or an emergency averted. if your house catches fire it is an emergency. If you manage to put it out quickly without too much damage, good for you! Then you can return to your "daily stuff". This situation is the equivalent of being told your dog is lost while your house is on fire. You have to put out the fire, then you can look for the dog.
The bigger issue is, how did the house catch on fire in the first place? As I heard one commentator put it, we all know the house is on fire, but it's not due to a lightning strike. This is arson.
McCain, who knows very little about economic issues by his own admission, did absolutely NOTHING. He couldn't even stop members of his own party from walking out of the meeting. Oh, but he's going to "reform Washington"? Give me a friggin' break...

I very well understood where you were coming from. I simply took your metaphor and extrapolated it in order to bring the bigger picture into focus here.
