Default Offshore Drilling

The ban was allowed to expire.

If Obama wins and then we have a democrat controller congress, do they reinstate the ban?

How would this work? Thanks for the info and would appreciate an explanation on some probable situations if Obama wins. Thanks again. Im not an expert by any means so if im barking up the wrong tree, let me know.

Just because I would like to hear an answer of how an Obama presidency would affect drilling. Thanks for someone who is able to provide some insight.

Do some research on bbl price points for off shored drilling to be worth it for oil companies. There is a minimum price per barrel for the cost to be worth it and we are probably under that price and if not yet soon to be. Drilling was a good idea at $130-140 per barrel but not now. Thus it is probably a moot point.

Drilling in the Offshore by Mark Hemingway on National Review Online

New offshore drilling not a quick fix, analysts say - The Boston Globe
"Suppose the US produced all its oil domestically," said Robert Kaufmann, director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies at Boston University. "Do you think oil companies would sell oil to US consumers for one cent less than they could get from French consumers? No. Where oil comes from has no effect on price."Continued...

The area in Alaska that they are planning to drill on is NOT pristine NOW! I love the animals as well as anyone else, but we need to do something and right now (and for the foreseeable future) oil is the thing. Drill for it.

Please go to Tboonepickens website. Drilling for oil is important on our way to ALL other alternative energy. Ameicans demand drilling for oil, just like they demanded a gas tax holiday for a less than a dollar off gas. Obama would not go for what we people want of course. McCain and Clinton both offered a summer gas tax holiday!

They why was there drilling off the coast of Louisiana and Texas before the oil prices went up?

Although I am a Obama/Biden supporter, I agree that we can drill offshore and onshore but with good oversight and responsibility. Depending upon the company cost structure, type of fielde etc, cost of a bbl can be quite low - even as low as $30/bbl offshore. Over the decades, the advances in geophysics and engineering have made discovery costs much lower, and production much safer. Oil companies will make money even at $50/bbl oil. Just 8-10 year ago, most planning of majors was based on average cost of $25/bbl.
