Here it is... From a newspaper that endorsed George W. Bush in 2004. They really have some great points....

Quote:
By necessity, the country's next commander in chief must also be its mender in chief, capable of inspiring his angry and divided constituents to join together in a recovery project to restore the peace, prosperity, and self-confidence we once knew.
We fear that a lesser effort may be insufficient to reverse America's slide toward economic, political and societal chaos. The times require dramatic and comprehensive change.
Quote:
Then, out of nowhere, and without proper vetting, the impetuous McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. She quickly proved grievously underequipped to step into the presidency should McCain, at 72 and with a history of health problems, die in office. More than any single factor, McCain's bad judgment in choosing the inarticulate, insular and ethically challenged Palin disqualifies him for the presidency.

Interesting that so many red states are turning blue.

Look at the number of newspapers that have endorsed Obama vs McCain, many of them conservative. The Chicago Tribune in 150 years has never endorsed a Democrat according to this article:

The SLC Tribune, doing this, is saying a lot. Big time.

So I guess Utah is now full of Godless, terrorist-loving Muslim sympathizers eh?

What's also interesting is that the Chicago Tribune endorsed Obama. They're older than the Republican party itself and they've NEVER endorsed a Democrat.

hardly a surprise since:
The Tribune's editorial board has been a consistent supporter of Obama, backing his run for the Illinois Senate in 1996 and promoting him for U.S. senator in 2004. The U.S. Senate endorsement noted that he was "already being talked about as a candidate one day for president."

In December 2006, before Obama made his White House bid official, the editorial board urged him to do so, saying, "He and the nation have little to lose and much to gain from his candidacy."

the nation has already lost with the bailout! they seemed to have not printed obama's dealings with wall street or the pam martens wall street expose. i guess that they print their own agenda.

they also are endorsing an african-american candidate simply because of his race with this statement in their endorsement:
However this election turns out, it will dramatically advance America's slow progress toward equality and inclusion. It took Abraham Lincoln's extraordinary courage in the Civil War to get us here. It took an epic battle to secure women the right to vote. It took the perseverance of the civil rights movement. Now we have an election in which we will choose the first African-American president.......

Unfortunately, Utah will not be one of them despite the out-of-character endorsement of the Salt Lake Tribune.

In Utah, as in Oklahoma and Idaho, McCain currently is favored by Utah voters 2 to 1 over Obama.

Amazing: Salt Lake Tribune endorses Obama

If I were cynical I might think that the Mormon Church might be sending John McCain (and future Republican Presidential candidates) a message for his nasty attacks on prominent Mormon Mitt Romney, a former influential Utah Republican.

The Salt Lake Tribune endorsement gives the green light for Utah Mormon loyalists to vote independently this time.

Although Romney was born in Michigan and Governor of Massachusetts, he also had close ties to heavily Mormon Utah.

Additionally, in 1999 his Massachusetts state tax return listed him as a part-time resident and his 2000 tax return listed him as a full-time Utah resident.

The SL Tribune is a bastion of sanity in a sea of Utah red.
