Such as? Do you have an example that can compete with coal? There's a simple fact about the energy industry, if it can be cheaply produced it's going to be done. If there was a technology that could compete with coal then they would use it. The current crop of green energy plants like solar are only feasible because they are heavily subsidized by the government.

I've heard many statements regarding coal regarding the environmental impacts and some of them quite legitimate but that has got to be the craziest thing I have ever heard.

---------------------

The bottom line is this, coal powers this country and it cannot be replaced overnight. Any legislation from any party that imposes strict gudelines such as the ones outlined by Obama will at the very least have a large impact on low income families as they will be the ones least able to afford it. People are having trouble paying their heating bills now. The transition to clean energy whether needed or not can be done but it has to be done prudently especially considering the energy situation now.

Here's an idea, lets tax the hell out of people using more energy that they need. We can start with the environmentalist poster boy Al Gore and his 10,000 square foot mansion that consumes 12X the amount of energy than your average American home. You don't hear that in the news do you?

Remember when the Democrats say "We need to sacrifice." they actually mean "You need to Sacrifice".
Of course you think it's "crazy." You clearly know nothing about ecology or geology. Most Americans have no ecological education. The links I provided are from one of the leading worldwide scientific organizations. The suggestion that these scientists are "crazy" is ridiculous. And nobody said that the transition to new energy would be done overnight.

Nuclear energy is NOT the answer: where do you think all that toxic waste goes, anyway?

Sun, wind and geothermal energy (which we have enough of to power the nation for 1,000 years).

Gore's home is powered by solar energy.

But I agree that we should tax the hell out of people living in obscenely large homes that require obscenely large amounts of energy to power.

And to the other poster who thinks global warming is some kind of scam: You're living in a reality of your own making. There isn't any reputable scientist anywhere on the planet who would argue with the reality of global warming, OR with the fact that humanity has intensified it in dangerous ways. For godsake, we are losing 100 species PER DAY to EXTINCTION. 25%of all mammals living on earth are now facing extinction, as well. Never before in the history of this planet has this precipitous level of species die-off occurred. We are in danger. Very grave danger. You can dismiss it if you like, but your children will pay the price of your willful blindness and denial. It's generally a good idea to educate one's self on the issues before forming an opinion.

"Obama; We will bankrupt them"

IMO: What he really means is "We will bankrupt most Americans" and this goes even beyond financial.

Where Obama and McCain disagree on the plan concerns the role of the government, specifically how the government should allocate permits to companies. And unlike the current, silly spat over tire pressure gauges, this one matters.

Obama favors a full auction of the credits, which would act like a tax on companies, collecting a great deal of money right off the bat for the government to redistribute. This cash, he says, could go to alternative energy research and projects, then the credits would go to markets.

McCain says he would dole out permits in much the same way proposed by the Climate Security Act of 2007. That act failed in June to receive enough Senate support to even bring to a vote, but the basics are the same: Give the great majority of the permits away, and let the market set the price to support investment.

Just as important is McCains plan calls for proven... I'll repeat that .. P R O V E N technology like nuclear to replace the burden coal now bears. Obama wants to go head long into unknown territory and adopt technology that in some cases does not even exist. The ideas he has have been compared to the Moon Shot and the Manhattan Project both successful ventures but both were gambles too. The issue now is we are gambling with the future energy supply of this country at time when energy costs are soaring.
Great article!!! Thanks for posting!!!

Nuclear power with full fuel recycle to "burn" the Plutonium created in a power reactor could assure us of a electrical power supply forever. By using this material the waste stream of long life actinides would be pretty much eliminated. Not only do we need to build new nuclear power plants we should replace the steam generators (boilers) at existing fossil fuel power plants with appropriate nuclear reactors.

Petroleum and coal resources would eventually provide the chemical industry with feedstock and should not be wasted as a fuel.

It's clear that obama will implement draconian punishment for those companies interested in using an abundant resource like coal.

Wow. So, under Obama's energy plan, clean coal plants will be heavily penalized by the government that it just won't be worth it.

Incredible.

TYPICAL NeoConfused, out of context, misleading, fear-mongering BS!

He says NO SUCH THING on this audio. I guess you're not even smart enough to NOT post a link that clearly exposes your lack of FACT!

He should implement Draconian punishment for people who continually attempt to spread out of context misinformation and downright lies.

Even if this had any kind of legs..its too little too late. Its the eve of the election and this news hasnt even broken out over the major networks with exception to FOX. Its a misleading story that was taken out of context with what Obama was saying. If the tapes had been released 3 weeks ago, its possible McCain would have gained some ground in Ohio and PA. But at this point its too late. As they say....."the die has already been cast"
