I would highly suggest that those who think it that we shouldn't care what other countries think of us read the novel The Ugly American by Burdick and Lederer.
ps - I can sum it up this way; With the power and might of our country comes great responsibility to do the right thing, but the responsibility is only given because of our power.
By that argument, if we supposed there were a world in which all nations held equal or approximately equal power, diplomacy would be impossible in that world. Clearly that doesn't hold.
I will agree with you that having great power gives us a heavier burden to ensure we use it responsibly. I disagree that the power is what initially enables the responsibility.
Stalin famously quipped "How many divisions does [the Pope] have?" The Communists later discovered that while the Pope had no divisions, his legions were many.

I wonder why there are so many Americans who think its more important than France likes us than making sure the US takes priority...please tell me why...
We share the same planet and our economies are intertwined.
I would feel better about caring what other countries thought of us if they were at all concerned about our best interests. They are not. They are concerned about their own best interests. But we're to hold ourselves to a different standard?

No. We're simply to understand the rather elementary fact that other countries' opinion of us has consequences, for better or worse. What part of "being respected globally is in our national interest" is so hard to digest?

Because when we give $45 BILLION to Africa..were are considered Imperialist...when we dont give it..we are considered racist. We cant win for losing. When was the last time any other nation gave money to anyone? And TAXPAYER money at that?

I've never heard anyone call the U.S. imperialist for giving humanitarian aid to Africa. $100 billion in military aid to Israel, yes. Diplomatic cover to South Africa, Portugal, and other colonial powers, yes. Imperialist wars in Vietnam, Panama, Iraq, etc., yes. Those are a little different.
