Hmm... how many mother-in-law jokes can we come up with on this forum?

YouTube - The House of Tomorrow

There's a few good ones in that cartoon. I remember that one as a kid.

How nice for the girls that their grandmother will be living with them. I think it's great and isn't that what families do- pull together? Another instance of the Obama's walking the walk that families are important. I think I read somewhere that she would be keeping her home, as well, so she'll be able to get away from the madness that is Washington when she wants.

I don't think that the other relatives mentioned have been involved as caregivers, neither do I remember them sitting on the couch with Barack election night, so not sure that they are intimately involved in the day to day family network. We all have "family" that are not like us, even McCain and Palin.

I can see one great benefit for many Americans of having his mother-in-law inhouse. If he even TRIES to decimate Social Security and Medicare, as he's threatening to do, she'll kick his butt!

I am waiting to see what he does with Social Security. I have several hunches and they will be interesting in varying degrees if proposed. I really believe the income maximum needs to be increased. When working I was above it and wondered why when we were looking at long term structural concerns. I suspect he may want to make it mandatory for all employees. Some state employees don't pay into Social Security and get higher pension benefits instead. I suspect he may want to go after that. Both of those help to boost the structural stability of SS. I know this thread is about the mother in law but as you say she will be weighing in over the dinner table.

Obama can move the mother-in-law in but I guess Monica is a no go.
