Sure it's scary to see the state of our economy- but here are a few things to keep in mind.

It shouldn't need saying, but apparently some people want to look at President Obama for the hemorrhaging of our economy- you know it's where we were headed no matter who took over in Jan. It's been heading that way for a long time and we needed emergency measures while Bush was still in office.-when the first part of the bailout was handed out. Did people forget so soon?

How would you like to know that after the first bailout funds were paid out- while all the wild bonuses went out to bailed out CEO's as Christmas gifts- The Bush administration spent a reported $16 Million Dollars to redo the Whitehouse.gov website in November? (How 16 B ? Why would one spend that and just before leaving office?)

President Obama asked for input from politicians, leaders in their fields and the public. He admits some parts of the new plan might not work and will end up being cut. So if you have a better idea, he is listening!

Yes we are talking about spending huge amounts of money. It's scary- but take a second look.
What did we get with all the money spent over the last 8 yrs? See improvements around you? (Only Improvement I recall seeing here is adding the Do Not Call List)

President Obama's Plan calls for new schools, added benefits for Vets, unemployed, health care needs, roads, training, renewable clean energy,
broadband, high-speed rails and modernized electric grid so we keep our power running.

Along with hope of saving some banks, car manufacturers and keeping some people from losing their homes.

Without this plan- we'd see a lot of those funds going to record unemployment funds for years to come as another million people lose their jobs under the current strain.

It's scary- times are scary- but we can try and come through this with improvements and newly trained people living in a greener world and more energy sufficient country.

Which way would you rather get through this ?

You make the assumption that Messiah Obama's way is the only way. There were alternatives all along.

Let the automakers go bankrupt which doesn't mean they close their doors, they have a chance to reorganize, streamline, get it right. Let the failed banks go bankrupt, or let them go under. Who cares?

Let those people who bought houses way above their means foreclose on them and get out from all that mortgage mess they got themselves into.

No bailouts, they won't help.

How on earth can you make the case that anything Obama is doing with regard to the budget is "responsible?"

Now before all the Obama rump swabs jump down my throat with the typical "but the evil Bush, Cheney, and Wall St bankers were the irresponsible ones"... you'd be correct. They were irresponsible. So now what's your argument?

This isn't a binary, zero sum game where either the Republicans are 100% correct or the Democrats are 100% correct. Both the Republicans AND the Democrats made bad policy decisions in BOTH the Clinton and Bush administrations. Congress joined in the irresponsibility under both Democrat and Republican control, and now we have to solve the problems that were created.

None of that history excuses the absolutely destructive policies being proposed by Obama, rooted in class warfare and fiscal insolvency.

Really Good points about who got us here but I still stand by my view that Without this plan- we'd see a lot of those funds going to record unemployment funds for years to come as another million people lose their jobs under the current strain.

It's scary- times are scary- but we can try and come through this with improvements and newly trained people living in a greener world and more energy sufficient country.

--if not that we are stuck with exactly what got us here- unless you have some better ideas to share with President Obama

Almost all mainstream economists agree that if you've used monetary tools like the Federal Reserve dropping interest rates to almost zero and that still has not worked...Stimulus in the form of Government Spending ( mostly on infrastructure) is the best way to lessen the damage in an huge economic downturn.

That's just a fact.

The more you add tax cuts the less effective it is.

These right wingers on this forum are like little children. Their ideology says that we should have less government regulation.....well the SEC did just that and we had less regulation in the securities market....it was a huge house of cards that could have been prevented. They held the Presidency for the last 8 years and Control of both Houses of Congress for 6 of the 8 last years.

Now the chickens have come home to roost and they want to blame it on the guy who is making an effort to clean it up.......Shameful!

If there were more people like you, independent thinkers versus sheep, we would not be in this mess. Unfortunately where we are now proves that there are few. You will get no answers here because they have none other than Bush blah blah, blah, Wall Street, blah, blah, blah, mortgage bankers, blah, blah, blah, CEO's blah, blah, blah. It gets old real fast but what would you expect from sheep?
