Today, Republican James Tedisco conceded the race in NY's 20th congressional district to Democrat Scott Murphy. If you remember, the district's seat opened up when Kirsten Gillibrand was appointed to replace Hillary.

The DNC in quick order released this web video:

Default A Test Race Where the GOP Loses

Didn't Michael Steele and other lions of the GOP show up and put money into the House race to fill the seat of Hillary's replacement? I don't think this was really an evaluation of the opinion of the new administration, but in a rural, conservative region which had gone Republican for years -- the Democrat won.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Democrat has won a close U.S. congressional election in New York that had been seen by some as an early gauge of support for President Barack Obama. Republican Jim Tedisco conceded defeat on Friday to his Democratic rival Scott Murphy in a district of northeast New York state that has traditionally been Republican but has voted Democratic in recent years.

"As a candidate, Scott courageously championed the economic plans we need to lift our nation and put it on a better path, and he will continue to do so in Congress," Obama said in a statement.

Some experts saw the special election for a vacant seat in the House of Representative as a sign of how voters assess Obama's performance since he took office on January 20.

This race is merely the tip of a huge iceberg headed for the GOP-TITANIC in 2010 and 2012...

Americans are continuing to say NO WAY to the Party of NO!!!

The GOP is a party of dead-men walking - I think they are just beginning to realize what a terrible mistake they have made over the past 8 years and 4 months...

Demographics are completely against them... and their complete obstructionist attitude is simply the last straw that is breaking their back - in several places....

Couldn't have happened to a better lot of scumbags!!! I can't wait to see John Boehner's rear-end on the unemployment line!!!

Do you like the kool-aid?

Clearly money talks more than an internet political junkie.

The DNC reported $8.6 million on hand and $7 million in debt, while the RNC reported $24 million in the bank and no debt.

The Democratic National Committee raised $3.2 million in February.....Even the committee's Republican counterpart raised more - $5.1 million
GOP Raises More Than Democrats Last Month ( $3.2Mil vs. $5.1Mil )

The simple explanation for that: The GOP is full of donations from ultra rich people and corporations (since the GOP) is all about the rich. Democrats get more grass roots donations and not as much corporate dollars.
The free republic is a right wing, cheerleading rag.

Do you not realize who gained the corporate donations in the last election?

Lets start here.

Democratic monopoly.

Obama owns the Auto Industry, the Banks, and the Railroad ( AmTrack ). He's already spent as much taxpayer money as could possibly be spent. ( on credit of course )

Buy up health care and provide pensions to Union Workers at our great grandchildren's expense, do not go to jail, pass Boardwalk and collect $200.

Yippee, the Democrats win.

Now, has anyone ever heard the words "responsible" and "Obama" used in the same sentence?

Yes. "Total GOP failure is responsible for President Obama's election."

Except that the wealthiest bracket vote Democrat quite strongly vs. Republican... Need we list the corporations that backed Obama again? If celebrities are 'grass roots' donations, then yes, I suppose you could present that argument.. The DNC is the party of corporate bailouts, so it is rather easy to see why the wealthy back Obama.

I am willing to bet $$ that the Republicans will regain control of Congress in 2010 or 2012. No party has controlled the presidency and Congress at the same time for more than 4 years, no matter how dire the circumstances. Even Clinton lost Congress in 1994, it could easily happen to Obama (hence why he is rushing so much legislation through while he can).
