I enjoy films/books/tv which are sort of an attack on consumerism, work/office culture, and general middle class dull lifestyle that everyone seems to aspire, and the fake and blandness of life, the artificial world in we life in sometimes - Here are some them I like
Revolutionary Road
American Beauty
Office Space
Death of a Salesman
The Bothersome Man
fight Club
The Trueman Show
The Matrix
1984
Are there any others which you could recommend, anything books, tv, films etc.
I liked The Ice Storm.
They lived a dull middle class lifestyle.
Ok - something which attacks conformity, fakeness, artificiality, - In American Beauty - He realises life is passing him by with a Wife who hates him and miserable money obsessed *****, children who disrespect him, A dead end job and he suffers a sort of mid life crisis, gives up his job and start doing smoking dope.
In Death of a Salesman - Willy Loman believe that to be a successful salesman, all you had to do was be well liked, which turned out to be wrong - and he deludes himself that he was successful but in reality never was - Is the corporate world full of Willy Loman types?
That was one of the most wrenching movies, I'll never get it out of my head!
A brilliant film - very much of satire on modern life - cold, emotionless people - who sat around discussing what they bought at Ikea at work.
I loved the bit where he told his girlfriend he was having an affair, and that he was leaving her - and she said ok, but what day because remember we have a visitors coming saturday night.
There is "the Office" - which is sort of Satire of the average workplace.
There is a bit at a jobs fair - where Michael Scott says that all these employers are "crap holes" and they "don't deserve you" - Brilliant!
