I feel bad for the contestants. They are made to believe they will have career after, but I admit I haven't heard them on the radio lately. Why do American Idol contestants have better luck?
Folks on X-Factor are not promised a career, just studio time, coaching and money if they win.
American Idol is about exposure and the money.
The Got Talent shows from around the world are about having fun and prize money.
The Voice is pretty much the same has the X-Factor in its' rewards.
Because you don't hear the acts here doesn't mean they're not being heard elsewhere.
The Asian market is so much larger, that a fair amount of media is released there first.
Kind of a reason why so many Asians sing karaoke in English even though they may not understand a word of what they're singing.

To answer your thread title on why people love these shows so much, some get satisfaction watching people they think are better than themselves fail. Provides some with the encouragement to do it themselves. Others, like myself; are into it for the entertainment and the occasional "WOW" moment.
It's reality tv. People who like reality tv usually aren't the brightest crayons in the box.
