We have a small chain called Cinetopia. Two here in town, one in OR and one in CO. Anyhow, they are a higher end theatre. The one at the mall has a restaurant and one of the theatres has a balcony where you can eat and have a beer or two. No kids, people pay extra to be there and act like adults. There are other goodies about that theatre too, it's worth the extra money. It puts the local Regal theatres to shame.
A coworker went to a high-end theater in Southern California recently where they had recliners, food service at your seat, and adult beverages available too! She said it was awesome, but it cost a bit for her and daughters- but they had a really nice experience.
Last movie I saw in a theater was Lincoln. I really wanted to see it in the movie theater but time had passed and I figured it was gone. I checked the paper, and there it was, still showing at the mall theater at 11 a.m. the next morning, a Saturday. There were maybe six other people in the theater. It was great.
I am bothered by having to sit through a half-hour of commercials
and trailers. They are the downside of digital conversion. Distributors,
when movie ran 35mm, could only fit a limited amount of trailers on a reel.
Now, I feel as if I'm watching "television in public" to quoth Quentin Tarantino.
Can't say since I haven't seen a theatre movie in years but one thing I did notice that was unsettling with a DVD the other day was that the trailers were taking away from the spirit of the flick I wanted to watch.
Ie, like say I want to watch a horror flick and they are showing ads for "Happy Days".
Not quite the things to get one in the mood for the main event.
Agree! We only go when we have gift cards. It seems everytime, regardless how busy, theres always someone who ruins the movie. One older lady in front of us was fidgiting around in her purse being so loud! She wouldn't stop. Sounded like she had tons of plastic in her bag. Last time we went, 2 people down from us just kept talking to each other throughout the movie! WHY do these people pay money to see a show and talk or be distracted the entire time? Whats the point of going? We always go after a week that a movies been out to avoid it being busy, but people still sit right by us. Yes, we try to not go and wait to rent. Its a shame though, as its still a fun experience(if people were different).
Mmm, haven't been to our house then. Hubby's man cave includes his bar, the theatre set-up and nice recliner seats, not to mention his sound set-up. Just need a popcorn popper. 😏
We still go every once in a while. Most of the time it's been to the Alamo. Have not had any really bad experiences lately, that I can recall.

Cool. 135", 9.4, 6500 Total Watts here.
My recliners aren't automated though.
So if he has all that, what's with the low-fi streaming?

Low-fi streaming? I don't believe I even mentioned "streaming". Had to be another poster.
