Don't turn this into a generation thing. I'm only 18 and have CD's by Pryor, Carlin, Hicks, and many others.
I'm not a fan of Robin Williams. Not big on the physical comedy.
P.S. People who are fans of legends like Carlin, Hicks, Pryor, etc should check out Doug Stanhope.
Oh, it has nothing to do with generation; good taste knows no age.
My point was that these "cutting edge" young comedians wouldn't be where they are had there not been for the like of the trailblazers that went before them, and (more to the point) the people who think Dane Cook is hilarious and have no idea who George Carlin and Lenny Bruce were.
And I agree with you on Robin Williams. He's funny in small doses, but a bit too spastic for my taste.

Oh; "get off the field; you suck!!"
You are generalizing. My mom was lucky enough to actually see Carlin live.
Dane Cook is also one of her favorite comedians.
Then again, she can sit and watch Jim Carrey movies all day.
Not funny:
Steve Martin...Totally dislike his movies, and he is not funny.
Robin Williams
Conan O'Brian
Rosie and Joan R.
Any woman jokester who swears ........is not pleasant to me.
I like people who don't read from scripts ( completely) Someone like Red Skelton.......
Everything is too scripted anymore.

I disagree on that one. I like Dane Cook, and I've always been a huge fan of Carlin, Bruce, Pryor and other comedians of that generation. While Cook has been accused of stealing material, I have news for you, they all do at some point in there career. What makes Cook funny is his delivery and inflection.
There were a lot of critics who thought Eddie Murphy was copying Richard Pryor, but he was still funny doing his own material.
A lot of people like Hicks and Hedberg, I didn't think they were all that funny. Hicks was a lighter version of Sam Kinison (who was one of my favorites), while Hedberg was doing his Steven Wright impersonations. Difference being, Wright is funny, Hedberg was not.
One of my favorites of today is Brian Regan.
Ones I do not like:
Jimmy Fallon
Wanda Sykes
Bill Hicks
Rosie
Letterman
Martin Lawrence
- Sarah Silverman (hot babe, but don't find her funny)
- Lisa Lampanelli (funny for about 5 seconds, then she gets real boring, real fast)
- Jerry Seinfeld (just don't find him funny at all)
- Ricky Gervais (funny in The Office, but a lousy standup comedian)
i don't really have a problem with anyone.. i wouldn't say unfunny but not the kind of funny that i go for.
that said, there's one comedian that i just don't understand and that's lisa lampanelli...
i'm not sure if she's trying to be funny or just vent.

That dork who walks around with a knit cap on and goofy smile and talks to people - how or why on Earth anyone would consider that even remotely amusing or anything other than idiotic I've no idea

Hicks was way better than Kinison.
And Mitch Hedberg was completely different from Steven Wright. Yes, they both do surreal comedy, but they have completely different styles.
Oddly enough, every comedian you mentioned (like or dislike) is better than Dane Cook.
And to make the claim that all comedians steal material is preposterous.
