I am thinking of vacationing in Yachats this month. I was wondering if anyone knows if that area is smoky. If it is, do you know areas of coastal Oregon that are not smokey right now?

I was wondering the same thing.

I am planning to drive from Baker City to Astoria on Monday (possibly more difficult than usual because I-84 through the Gorge might still be closed) and then on Tuesday down to Yachats where I have a reservation for 3 nights.

The TripCheck cameras aren't very helpful because what looks like smoke is likely to be fog.

If I get some information about the smoke situation there outside of city data, I will post it here to let you know.

We are getting a lot of thundershowers right now on the coast. Hopefully that will help clear out the smoke. The smoke has been really bad especially on the Central and South Coast. I think I will be in Yachats tomorrow. If that happens, I can post tomorrow evening and tell you what the conditions are like.

It's been mostly a smoke-fog mix for the last week. Even though it looks like fog, it smells like smoke, and the sun has been glowing red. Which is always a good indication it's smoke.

Thank you so much for all of your input! Perhaps we'll spend some time in Northern Ca instead.

Northern California is smoky too, maybe even worse. If you really want to get away from the smoke, you might want to consider going up to the Olympic Peninsula. They seem to be escaping it pretty well.

Oregonsmoke.blogspot.com has good, up-to-date information. We were near Yachats this past weekend and the air was clear.
