I have lived in Springfield for over 2 years. When I watch the local newscast, it seems their weather report is different from what I experienced in Springfield (Haden Bridge area).
I have a friend in Thurston who seems to get more rain that I do. So do we have microclimates here? Which area gets the most rain? Which is sunnier?

Yes there is. The weather will change from areas. The Coast Range influences what kind of weather you will get. As for specifics as to which area gets which, I am no expert at that.

Locally it has more to do with elevation and where you are in connection with the rivers. If you're down in a valley within the Willamette Valley you will have dramatically different weather than someone on a butte. The butte and mountains also affect the weather around them. For example, to the east of Mt. Pisgah it's dryer and scrubby. It almost feels like Eastern Oregon in a small area.

The area between the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers tends to be a few degrees warmer in the winter and a bit cooler in the summer, because of the effect of all that water flowing on either side. This is especially true in the upper end of that zone, around Thurston, where the arms of the valley become narrow and the effect is intensified.
