My husband just loved whatever city that was he just saw on Tour de France today. It was completely walled and all the announcers said was that it's between Provence and Mount Pellier (forgive any misspellings - I don't know French). It should be near St. Just.
We're thinking of moving to Europe so this isn't just an idle question.
I looked up Miramas le Vieux on the internet and it doesn't look at all like the one on TV - but WOW!! That part of France has got loads of character. Wish I could just take off and explore it for 6 months or so.
The city my husband was looking for was in more of a rolling countryside and the walls were of very smooth grey stone. The wall was completely square and on the corners there were round towers a bit taller than the walls. The homes and businesses inside all had red roofs (I guess clay) and I think it mostly looked like white or cream colored walls. There were trees off one corner of the town and the rest of the area was green plains that looked like went on for miles.
If the city is between Provence and Montpelier, I wonder if it could possibly be Carcassonne?
After Googling, LYNYLOU is right, it has to be Aigues-Mortes--looks like it's closer to Montpelier. Aigues-Mortes
If you like Aigues-Mortes, you should check out Carcassonne. I was there on a freezing February day and we had the place to ourselves.
The Languedoc in France is my favorite part of the country--so far.
Not so touristy, tons of history, delicious wine.
