I wonder if the French and British still have that rivalry going on...Even after being Allies in the last few wars.
There's a friendly rivalry between the British and the French, like banter. We definitely do not hate each other. We're very similar in many ways even if we don't like to admit it.
Much of that is specifically Barack Obama. He may harbour deep-seeded resentment towards the British, most likely because of his grandfather's involvement with the Mau Mau uprising in Kenya. The British were a brutal colonial power, just like all colonial powers. Barack Obama's mother's side of the family (the Dunhams) have strong English roots though. If you've seen pictures of them, they even look English.
Obama only met his father 1 time and didn't meet his grandmother until he was a grown man, are you kidding me?
Obama has NO Kenyan in him whatsoever, culturally.
He's culturally a White guy from Hawaii.
I don't know why people like to treat him like he's some militant Black guy, when he didn't even grow up in the Black community in America or Africa.

I envy the French. They have better weather than us and have leaders who love their country like De Gaulle, Mitterand and Chirac. Sarkozy less so. I cant think of the last PM we had who loved the UK. Certainly hasnt been one in the 20th or 21st centuries
I've noticed particularly the French and German media refers to the British and the Americans as if they're almost the same nationality, using terms such as "Anglo-American", "Anglo-Saxon", "British/Americans", etc.
Saying America and the UK are similar is like saying Spain and Mexico are similar, or even France and Gabon.
It's rediculously ignorant of continental Europeans to consider the UK and USA to be similar, yet quite often they talk about the UK and USA as if they are almost identical.
Why? Does it stem from xenophobic arrogance? I mean, in the UK, we never refer to the Spanish as "those Mexican/Spanish", so why do they refer to us as "Anglo-Americans"?
????
I have never heard/read a continental European (wtf is this stupid term?) refer to British and U.S. nationals as being identical.
I know the U.S. media likes to hire Australian actors to look physically more British in Hollywood movies, but Europeans are not dumb, they know the U.S. is the world's melting pot.

All the time I was in France, I never encountered a single person who hated me, nor showed any other form of contempt for me, nor was ever even rude to me. Maybe people in France have a sixth sense, and know which individuals to hate, so different people have different personal experiences. In fact, quite a number of Frenchmen have been unusually kind and generous and hospitable to me,, some of them when I was in need of a helping hand from a stanger.

The French hate Sarkozy. And I think Winston Churchill is one for sure.
