An Argentinian friend of mine told me that he received a dual citizenship to Italy because his grandparents were born there, I had no idea this was possible through grandparents and was wondering if it were possible for a US citizen to obtain

If possible, here's my criteria
-my paternal grandfather was born in Italy but my paternal grandmother (Italian descent) was born in the US
-both of my maternal grandparents were born in Germany

idk if I would be able to get citizenship to one of these countries but your insight would settle this inquiry. tnx

You would need to contact the Italian Consulate. Italian citizenship is a bit complicated. You can get citizenship through a grandparent or great grandparents in certain cases. I think if your Italian grandparent took up another citizenship you can't but don't take that as fact.

I don't think you can get German citizenship though a grandparent. I think it has to be a parent.

To add to that, I'm also pretty sure Germany doesn't do dual citizenships and you'd basically have to choose a nationality if I'm not mistaken.

If your paternal grandfather was born in Italy, you only need to prove that when your father was born, your grandfather was an Italian citizen.

Italy and Greece are the easiest countries to obtain citizenship.

Not true. My kids have the dual citizenship. US-American and German.

Germany allows dual citizenships. See Beibehaltungsantrag.

Going by his post OP does not satisfy German requirements but potentially Italian ones. There is a recent thread on military forum with the necessary links.

Not to toot my horn as OP but I posted a thread in Europe called "dual citizen Italy America" or some such which is still active, and got some awesome responses about the process for obtaining Italian citizenship through (great)grandparents. I'm checking this out too.

I don't know about Germany, but Italy does allow citizenship through grandparents. Although, I believe they will have had to be born not before 1942. Please verify this info not the consulate general of Italy's website. I'm sure as time passes they will change the requirements.
Good Luck, In bocca al lupo!
