They're often lumped together for their supposed 'Celtic' connection but Scotland seems to be just as if not more connected to northern England and Norway as it does to Ireland. The exception would be Northern Ireland and Donegal which in some ways have more in common with southwestern Scotland than they do with the rest of Ireland.

Didn't the populations of western Scotland and Ireland mix at some point? What's the history of the Scots-Irish? I think there must be regions of Scotland that are similar to Ireland in some ways. And then there are the Norwegian-heritage areas of the Shetlands and the Orkneys. Scotland is a mixed bag, it's not a completely homogeneous unit.

They're very culturally similar. Not sure what you mean by "more in common". I've lived in Ireland and I've been to Scotland a couple of times. Language? Religion? Food? All pretty much the same. I think it rains more in Scotland. That's about it.

They're very similar, but I would say Scotland and England are more similar when it comes to things like same-sex marriage and religion - both are more liberal than Ireland.

Mountains in Scotland are higher, that's about it. They look very similar otherwise.

Only 32% in Scotland are Church of Scotland - Presbyterian. 16% are Catholic. 43% don't identify with any religion. So get your facts straight before you brush all of Scotland as Presbyterian.

Really? Where did you come up with that?

Scotland has a more rugged, dramatic landscape than Ireland. Ireland does have some dramatic landscape but more likely to be gently rolling.
