The scale of the apparent brain drain was laid bare last week by Sergei Plugotarenko, the head of the Russian Association for Electronic Communications, an industry lobbying group.
“The first wave – 50,000-70,000 people – has already left,” Plugotarenko told a parliamentary committee.
Only the high cost of flights out of the country prevented an even larger mass exit. Another 100,000 tech workers nevertheless might leave Russia in April, Plugotarenko predicted.
This shouldn't be a problem, we've heard repeatedly about Russia's intellectual superiority to Ukraine. The Ukrainians are the uneducated peasant rubes, and the Russians are the refined aristocracy with the superior language and genetics.
Ruth, previously the USA allowed newspaper reporters to be embedded with the troops. Now the news agency has little information to go on which is a change in USA policy.
I don't know if its because the reporters had video on the 13 servicemen killed during the Afghanistan withdrawal and Biden doesn't want a repeat or what the story is?
It's a definite change of policy. I found, but haven't read all of these links:
If reporters were currently embedded with US troops they'd have no news to report. The action is elsewhere.
I see CNN and BBC reporters on or close to the front lines with Ukrainian forces. Why would the Russians even consider allowing western reporters to embed?

Thanks again for your web research and posting! I checked a couple of those, and they imply the ban on embedding journalists with ... whoever, wherever in this situation, is precisely the reason I pointed toward. Previous "embeddings" were in relation to Near East/Middle East wars, weren't they? I think the current war has been classified differently, for good reason IMO, so the Pentagon, etc. are exercising extreme caution.
I consider the reason to be legit. Is it unconstitutional, i.e. a freedom-of-the-press concern, is that where you're going with this? That would be a topic worthy of its own thread.
But the NY Times (whatever anyone's opinion is of them) is almost as embedded as any journalists can get in Ukraine. They have extensive coverage, and they have more than one reporter in there, risking their lives. I don't know about the presence of other US news sources. And Mulligan has a good point; the action is not on the Polish border, it's in Ukraine. Mainly atm the Polish side is mostly engaged in transporting arms across the border, as I understand it.

The press itself is divided over the embed policies because of restrictions the military place on them.
Both sound really bad in my opinion, whenever I hear Russian, Ukrainian, French or the jewish "kh" my reaction is "wtf Hitler was right??" lol. As to intellectual superiority - I doubt it, yet Russia has 3 times the population so its logical to come up with more scientists and artists.

Russia would never allow western reporters. Western reporters are in Ukraine.
It's weird that western reporters aren't allowed in USA bases with USA soldiers in Poland. I'm guessing its because USA policy is undetermined and shifting? Your guess is as good as mine!

Really? Considering that over the last 100 years Russia had 2 pro-Ukrainian leaders who ruled together for 34 years, this looks strange.
