i am planning to relocate to germany to learn the language in a few months , but i am not sure which city i should move to , i am looking for a city with good student life/ nightlife for a single canadian , i am 25 and i want to move to a vibrant city were i can socialize/enjoy life while learning the language . please take in consideration that money would not be an issue in my case as i kind off have a good budget . i was thinking about berlin ,Hamburg or munich maybe frankfurt ( would take other cities in consideration too ) ,but frankfurt seems to me like a place where it would be dead after 5pm work is done around that time.
Do you mean you are moving in a few months, or that you think you will learn it in a few months? Because you won't. You can't become fluent in squat in a matter of months.
Probably don't choose Frankfurt for the reason you already speculated. Nobody seems to be that fond of Frankfurt. Berlin is pretty vibrant for the young and has an enormous community of international expats and wanderers. It's quite a ways cheaper than other large cities but you'll want to learn more about other places in the country before deciding.
I have read about restaurants that open up by people who don't even speak German, which is another issue if you're trying to learn. A lot of people comment that if you start speaking poor German, Germans will often just default to English making it hard for you to ascend in fluency.
thanks for the reply jesse ,what i meant is that i will be leaving montreal in a few months to germany , however am not sure to which city i should go , i have been in montreal for the past 7 years ,but now its time for the next step in life , i am planning to stay there for more than a few months ( as long as it takes to learn the language fluently ) i dnt know any german or anybody there to ask them and thats why am here , i want a city where i can socialize with people my age to learn the language and look for new opportunities. am debating between berlin ,Hamburg , and munich, not sure about frankfurt tho !!
Citizens from some countries, including Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand and the United States of America, don't need a Schengen visa to enter Germany for stays of up to three months (90 days) but will need to apply for a residence permit within that three months if they wish to stay longer or to work.
Leipzig is the new Berlin. A lot of the "scene" is already moving there. I would not suggest Frankfurt or Munich. Depends how big the city should be? Some University towns have a really good flair, like Tübingen, Heidelberg, etc.

Frankfurt-boring, expensive.
Munich-ridiculously expensive and very...hmmm...bourgeois (to say it politely)
