China sends police to Paris to protect tourists from Roma gangs | Mail Online

Well, the City of Lights is now apparently the City of Thief Gangs. What a shame - I wonder when EU will finally realize they can't keep sweeping the problems with the Romas over from one area to the next. Is there a solution?

"Earlier this year, 23 Chinese nationals were all robbed at once in a restaurant soon after they arrived to start their holiday."

Good grief. I'm not surprised, however.

"'It's musical chairs' said Mr Colombies. 'We chase the Roma from one place to another, from one arrondissement to the next.'"

Perhaps they should try chasing the Roma into boats that can take them to the far side of the Mediterranean.

"This has led to protests from a number of human rights groups, including Amnesty International, which points out that most Roma France are Romanian or Bulgarian and as such are EU citizens with the right to live and work in the country."

Wrong. They are of Indian origin, and hence cannot in any way, shape, or form be truly part of the EU, just as moving them to Israel, for example, would not make them Jewish.

They (these particular gypsies in the article) were born in Romania and Bulgaria, both EU countries.. but yes their great-great-great-great-great-great grandmothers came from India.

Are there a lot of Roma in L.A.? I honestly don't know -- we have so much diversity here it's difficult to tell who is who exactly at times.

Don't they understand that working isn't part of the gypsy's culture? But begging, stealing and scamming is.

I never knew that. I always thought they're from Romania, hence the name 'Roma'. They don't even look like Indian anymore. I travel to India quite often since husband has family there, but I never once encountered this so called Roma or gypsy folks in India. I suspect, culturally speaking, they're closer to Romania or Bulgaria than India.
