You can get a monthly ticket for public transportation for about 50 Euro. If you spend 26 Euro for clothing, than you have 100 Euro left for fun.

It's possible but difficult.
250 euro's for rent + utilities in Germany is pushing it. compromises would be made, probably by it being situated miles away from anywhere, or some run down area with crackheads.

rent + utilities for a room (shared kitchen bathroom etc) in the UK (Watford) in a nice neighborhood is £400 (490 euros) a month

I had a 1 room Appartment in Germany for 250 with Utillitys near Heidleberg. It was a funky 1 room Appartment on a horse farm. I was doing IT for a Hotel group and only was home for a few nights a month anyways so it did not really matter.
I have lived on about 600 a month but it was not much fun.

It all boils down to that. It's certainly possible to live off of 600€ a month in Germany, but it's certainly not fun.

Germany is not the UK, we don't have this inflated housing bubble. Housing here is much cheaper than in the UK. There are a lot of mayor cities in Germany where you can get a small apartment for 250 Euro incl. utilities. For example Dortmund, a city with 600k inhabitants, there you can get such an apartment near the city center. Main station, city center all in walking distance. And this is not a run down area. In my opinion there are no run down areas in Germany. Even the worst areas in the Ruhrgebiet are ok to live in. I have studied in Dortmund and Duisburg.

It's possible in rural France too, but that's all. And quite boring. Minimal wage is 1200€ anyway.. If you own your house, it's okay in most of the country but Paris and few cities. But you won't have much fun either.
I don't think many European countries would give you a visa if you have only this amount of money and don't expect to work.

Not here - you'd be lucky to find a place that cheap to rent per month.

Nothing, if you enjoy isolation or rural living - but it isn't for everyone.

I have forgotten the electricity and the costs for the public broadcasting. Therefore I think it's better to live in a shared flat (WG or Wohngemeinschaft).

An example for Dortmund:

Rent for 9m² room + shared kitchen + utilities + TV, Phone, Internet + 3 party-people: 155 Euro

kleines&feines Zimmer in super WG im Unionviertel - Wohngemeinschaft Dortmund-Innenstadt-West/ Unionviertel

Nothing wrong with that area:

https://maps.google.de/maps?ll=51.51...classic&dg=opt

Food: 120 Euro. Shop at discount stores and normal grocery stores, no dining out.

Toiletries: 10 Euro

Mobile phone + surf package: 8 Euro

Private liability insurance: 3 Euro

Hairdresser: 8 Euro (men)

Public Transportation: 43 Euro (VRR Ticket1000 9 Uhr Abo)

Total: 347 Euro

Left: 253 Euro for clothing, fun, dining out

I think that's a specific example how someone can live for just 600 Euros in a mayor german city. I think many students have to live from also very little money. And all the jobless people in Germany live also from less than that. And you can get a lot of fun in such a shared flat.

If I would 20 again, I would take this room. 20 years ago I have spent 350 DM or about 180 Euro for a 16m² room in Dortmund.

I just remembered that my sister is paying £500 a month for one room in shared accommodation.

I did a rough a calculation of renting one room with one bathroom + utilities included in rent, monthly food for one person, monthly contract phone, transportation costs, hairdressers etc, and it came to roughly €650 a month.
