"miles away from anywhere" the clue is right there. it costs money to get to places. having a car or using public transport to buy a loaf of bread will be costly.
Rent for a 1 bedroom flat is possible as low as 200 Euro a month, there is no mains gas here so only water & electricity to pay, no council tax or rates to pay. Cost of living is cheap here too, well much cheaper than the UK... Wages are quite low here, but obviously depends on what job/experience you want/have...
I have a friend who claims that he easily lives on 600 euros a month in Vienna (sharing apartment with a girlfriend) and also goes out quite often. Apartments in the Netherlands can also be quite cheap if youre under 24 and qualify for the renting subsidy, its possible to get an apartment 200 including the service costs in a small-medium sized city.
Yes my brother lives in Minsk, he says things are cheap and Russian courses as well maybe some day I make a visit.
You are welcome)
