Yeah I don't think in their wildest dreams or worse nightmares could they imagine this would happen. I mean how many commercial jets have been shot down over Ukraine? None prior to this. Planes fly over Iraq and Afghanistan too, and none have been shot down. It set a precedent, if you like. The question we should ask is what was the motivation for this heinous crime? Of course we have to determine the perpetrators before that can happen...who knows, sadly like MH370 it might remain a mystery for awhile, or even ever. I don't feel it's really helpful to start playing the blame game here.

I am curious why the US has not released the satellite images that would conclusively prove that the Buk missile was fired from territory held by the rebels. I am also curious why the Ukrainian authorities have not done so either. Lots of loose lips so far from both of them but no hard evidence. All the while, the western media like CNN and BBC alternate between bashing Putin (who has his own faults, I agree) and implying that somehow Russia was responsible. This is usually the soft method of western brain washing. The satellite images would be conclusive but no one has seen them. Where are the evidence?
Because their "evidence" won't confirm their heavy allegations and proofless accusations of the eastern rebels.

After all that's happened would love to know what PM Rutte thinks of his counterpart Vladimir Putin as regards the grave 'issue'. Looks as if the Dutch have been edged out trying to get answers.
There must be a real strained relationship now between the governments. Curious how far Rutte's government and country will go in managing the Russian relationship. Question is would there by a big price and will the Netherlands go for it? Are they up for it?

There is news today saying that according to various sources sentences from the interim report of the international investigation team have been deleted. It seems that some anti-Russian party wanted a sentence deleted which said Kiev did not close its airspace completely, which it should have done. Turns out that just a few days before MH17 another plane was shot down at an altitude of around 6500 meters. So it was obvious powerful weapons were being used that could shoot down planes from any altitudes. However, Kiev only partially closed its airspace from that moment on, namely up to an altitude of 9750 meters, which is slightly below the altitude commercial planes like MH17 use. They limited the closure of the airspace in order to keep cashing in about 2.5 million dollars per day from the airlines passing through the Ukrainian airspace.
Even some Dutch politicians are expressing their doubts now about the objectivity of the investigation and resulting reports.

As you probably know, it's fairly common that civil planes fly over conflict zones. For example, civil airplanes regularly overfly Afghanistan above 24.000 feet. For Iraq it's currently 20.000 feet. Same in Syria.

It's highly unlikely that rebels in a civil war acquire a weapon like a BUK, so it usually doesn't matter.

Also, that Antonov in 6500m height was most likely shot down by the Russians, who claimed that the Ukrainians were attacking people on Russian soil.

It is irresponsible as those weapons can easily shoot down planes from 13000 meters.

Those claims are almost half a year old...

There are way too many likely's, probably's, etc. in that entire Ukraine mess for my taste. And based on that a new cold war is erupting...

BUKs can, MANPADs (5000m) can't. Since the rebels claimed and still claim that they don't have any BUKs it was considered fairly safe to fly over that area.

Yea right. Rebels have claimed that they have shot down multiple Ukrainian planes.

This man even posted on Twitter about their glorious viictory before someone went to the crash site and discovered that it was a civilian plane D

A Russian has to be the dumpest animal alive

I don't think so. The West had already been accusing the separatists of having BUK's before the accident, regardless of whether they got them from Russia or by plundering army installations in the Ukraine.
So no plane can be safe over the Ukraine from the West's perspective.
