A government policy similar to this was started in Nazi Germany. Those who with mental problems or with severe health problems (like conditions related to being very old) were put to death by doctors and nurses with government approval. Now it looks like some nations are putting similar policies in place. While on the face of it, the politicians paint it as a merciful end to a bad condition. I am skeptical of anything a politician says. I believe the truth behind their policy is very the same one the Nazis used which was to save the government money. Keeping people alive in mental hospitals or in long term elderly care facilities is expensive. While medical science has improved to the point of keeping people alive for years beyond what was possible in the past, it hasn't necessarily improved their life during those added years. While I understand that for some conditions, it's easier for the family to have this easy solution, I'm concerned that this may become a slippery slope in what conditions are deemed to be worthy of doctor assisted suicide. Please be wary of such programs. Think of some of the great people who could have been killed by such programs. Stephen Hawking and Hellen Keller are two examples.
The nazis didn't "euthanise" old or blind persons or amputees. Stephen Hawking could've been "euthanised" in the US, UK or Sweden at that time. Especially the US and Sweden were jerking off to all "racial purity" theories in the 1930's to 1950's.
Use nazi Germany comparisons when they are appropriate (and those incidents are few), do not throw them around when something goes against your stone-age beliefs.
Ignore the OP, he tries to make the Netherlands look bad because some Dutch person(me) insists American cars are poor quality in some other topic. Despite his user name victimofGM applying he had problems with General Motors in the past. Americans ...
Fear mongering. Our euthanasia laws enjoy wide popular support in the Netherlands and more and more people make use of it. Euthanasia is only legal for people who are terminally ill and suffering and are mentally stable enough to make this decision. They have a right to die in a humane way if that's what they wish. If you believe euthanasia is morally wrong, then don't do it. But don't tell others what they can or cannot do with their own lives.
victimofGM: "bringing the P&OC cesspool to world forums since 2014"
how about you find a source that reports on assisted suicide in an honest fashion if you want to spurn serious discussion? you link to Breitbart, who link to the Daily Mail, who cite some dude from the Christian Medical Fellowship. no offense but if that guy is outraged, the Netherlands are probably doing a good thing.
If you ever come to Upper Austria be my guest and visit Schloss Hartheim (btw this offer is extended to other forum members). After that you'll be very careful to make such comparisons.
