Calling a group of people backwards just because they don't do things other people do is insulting. Here's an article regarding Aboriginal Australians.

Why didn't Aborigines build cities?

Also no the media/mainstream society doesn't show certain things because of the ideology that is in force, I won't go into that though.

Reconstruction of ''Great Zimbabwe'' ruins

cjester brilliant thread. In the Uk, people up North are more sociable, the south ( not south-west) are uptight, more ethnically diverse, not really Britain.

There are some exceptions though. For example, in South Asia, the more north you go, the more backwards people are (Afghanistan) but the more south you go, the more normal people get (South India, Sri Lanka)
I disagree with this view of the Southern Hemisphere, there are many interesting places throughout Central Africa and the Horn of Africa and the same goes for South America. There are countless example of how advanced their culture were such as Zanzibar (http://www.zanzibar-mvuvi-resort.com...-arab-fort.jpg), Lalibela (http://hiddenincatours.com/wp-conten...a-ethiopia.jpg), Agadez ( http://www.rain4sahara.org/sites/def...20Agadez_0.jpg ), ecc.

So what? We are living today, not in 1 BC
