There are as many diets as there are individual human beings.
Work out the diet that works for you personally and stick with it, until it no longer works and needs to be tweaked, based on your own personal experience.
All the best!
Thanks I'm not looking for a diet, I was looking for information about the truth behind protein consumption in Mediterranean people's diet. That everyone eats differently is a no-brainer, but the fact that there are regional trends and tendencies is too.

About 30% of their diet is protein consumption. Now depending on your definitions, most of their protein is fish or seafood, they don’t eat much beef and they eat a little more chicken. It makes sense being that they’re in the Mediterranean their main protein source is seafood.
Now, if you’re my relatives, fish isn’t meat . But most of their diet is plant-based.
I lived in Crete for about 7 months, in that part of the mediettrans, Feta seemed to be an important part of the diet( in a non lettuce salad). Along with fish & some lamb, Goat for special occasions, No beef at all. I did not see or eat beef the entire time i was there.
Bistecca, Sugo from beef or game, hearty stews with beef or game - Italy's food is very regional.
Go to the coastal regions and islands of former Yugoslavia - lots of fish, goat and beef. I found the lack of variety in vegetables an issue. Well, not everything likes salty air to grow.
We have close friends who have lived in the Cadiz area in Spain for the last 20 years. From steak to roast to spare ribs.
Tallysmom can you please give a source for your 30%?

Friend explained protein was 1/3 of the plate. With some vegetarian days. He was an Italian American, who spoke Italian, and lived with relatives while working there. Helped his career to have family and speak the language.

My husband's family is from the center of Basilicata. It's no way near the water. As a result, they only have fish occasionally. It's when the fishermen come to their village (as the older generation doesn't drive).
Their hometown does not have the Seven Fish Feast for Christmas Eve. My husband's parents prepared the Seven Fish Feast because they learned it from a Sicilian neighbor in Brooklyn, NY.
OSLO, Norway — There’s been much fanfare surrounding the Mediterranean diet in recent years, which typically consists of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, olive oil, and fish. Now new research offers some alarming warnings. Switching from an ordinary “Western” diet to a traditional Mediterranean diet may triple one’s intake of environmental contaminants, the stunning new report reveals.
Many studies have hailed it as a healthy alternative to typical diets (high in saturated fat from red meat and dairy), making it highly popular with health-conscious individuals. In a surprising twist, however, authors of this new report say fruit, vegetables, and whole grains are the source of most of these toxins when they come from traditional farming techniques. Meanwhile, fish contains many fewer contaminants.
Lol. 27 people in the study. What's really funny are all the articles on the benefits of the Med Diet below that one. As their site says, There is no agenda here other than to find new data that will elicit a healthy dose of conversation
So their agenda is to find things that get people riled up.
In the Greek islands, especially Crete, I observed locals eating lots of seafood, fresh vegetables and herbs, breads, olives, olive oil, feta cheese, and sometimes lamb.
In southern Italy, I noticed locals eating lots of seafood, chicken, fresh vegetables and fruit, and a small amount of pasta with olive oil.
In southern Spain, I saw locals eating a HUGE variety of seafood, some chicken and beef, stewed vegetables, rice, and olive oil-drizzled appetizers.
It appeared that the more well-off people were, the more meat they ate. Younger people went in for fast food.
And almost everyone consumed Mediterranean gold -- olive oil.
These were my observations in restaurants, cafes, bars, and beach areas. With few exceptions, I don't know how people ate at home.
