For those who want to know about the situation and all that has happened since late 2013. Keep in mind even this guy had to watch his words and not elaborate on certain aspects of this subject.
Anyway the best bits of information currently and historically is in the first 50 minutes, A long listen but it is about the best run down I have seen recently.
Nobody here is going to listen to this 1 hour 15 minute video.

Am too lazy to do my own reading on this subject.
I quite like perogies or varenyky - have to support the shops in our neighborhood.
I have got Cossack hats, Ukrainian Easter eggs, Ukrainian shirts, etc. etc.

Most likely they are referring to the polish Perogi, they are more known in the US due to the larger and older polish diaspora compared to the Russian one (that’s why if a East Slavic person takes a DNA test they will get Polish ancestry because they make up most of the customers but I’m going off on a tangent)
That being said Polish and Russian Perogies are different, the polish version are pretty much the same thing as the Ukrainian vareniki, the Russian Perogies or more aptly Pirog, is completely different and best described as a small meat pie.
