Welcome to the Europe chat thread - your very own off-topic chat thread

I was lucky to have been stationed overseas in Europe for 2 tours. That was during the cold war years. Pre European Union.
It was amazing how each western European nation was distinctly different from their neighbors. Food, drink, money, culture, building style, driving patterns, clothes, physical traits all different than their next door neighbors. Now compare that to the US, where as you travel around, things change slower. Regional accents taper off as you move away from the regional center. The same with food. New England food is nothing like SW US food. They mostly speak the same language and use the same money.
It's like traveling from the US to 1 of the English speaking Canadian provinces. Unless someone told you, you may not realize you crossed a border. But when you travel from San Diego to Tijuana, Mexico, you know for sure that you are no longer in America. I found that drastic difference between western European nations. I hope those nations are able to maintain their cultures now with the mass migration and illegal aliens flooding those nations.
