Does anyone know where Beggendorf, Germany is? Or if it is still even a place? I'm doing my family history and the place of someone's christening is at: Roemisch-Katholisch, Beggendorf, Rheinland, Preussen. This is from a record from the 1700s so it's probably way out of date. Any help would be great!! Thanks, Sam

Well, I found this - now all we need is someone who can translate from German.

Hi,

i try... Beggendorf belongs to Baesweiler, what is near Aachen in Northrhine-Westphalia, western Germany, about 50 miles from Cologne. Not very far away from Geilenkirchen NATO-Airbase.

The town has today 1654 residents and was founded at round about 952.

Here is a little map:

That is pretty awesome that you can trace your family back that far. I'm pretty sure 1800s is as far as we can trace our family...bunch of mutts.

I think this map coincidentally has an arrow pointed at the general area Beggendorf is located. 1800s though. The one captioned Kolb, Seelbach, Reider.

I have been doing genealogical research for quite some time on my family and if you use some yahoo groups, or the church of latter day saints (online) and many consulate offices in other countries you can go back pretty far. A few years ago I did my DNA(fathers side) for $100 U.S. and confirmed where I thought my family came from and actually matched to people in current Germany,Ukraine and some in the US. They are hoping in the next few years to connect the dots across the world so everyone can trace their past and current living relatives.

The Wikipedia article has lots of good info on Beggendorf. The interesting thing is that the Roman Catholic church that the OP was asking about is pictured in the Wikipedia article. That is the same church the OP was asking about because it has been there since the 1500s. It's also interesting to note in the 1700s that area of what is now Germany (which did not exist as a nation until the 1880s) was part of the old Prussian empire, which was referred to by the document that the OP was asking about.

talk about locations.
you can always be located.
due to a perhaps unique, in any case almost airtight registration system.
beyond compare, i guess.
