I think they have known for a loooooooooooooooooooooong time that refined carbs are horrible for you.
There is a reason it was never a big part of any culture's diet until very recent history. It's not part of any natural diet. Now that processes have made it easier and cheaper to come by...well, hell, yeah, you got a problem.
I do know that eating whole grains and lean protein do make me feel less hungry and more satisfied for a longer period of time than refined carbs do, maybe that's what they mean.
I also believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that drinking diet sodas increases a person's appetite. Every single fat person that I know drinks diet soda all day long like water, and every fat person I see at the grocery store has a cart full of diet soda in the checkout line.
a girl i knew from years ago (8 plus) was one of these i have to have my diet coke every morning day and night people. she was about average weight last time i saw her. ran into her about 2 months ago and it looked like she was carrying two big hams on her rear end, one for each cheek lol, and you guessed it, still had that diet coke in her hand. haha.
It's very important to eat healthy. Someone eating 1700 calories a day in cake and hamburgers is still going to end up looking like crap.
not necessarily. going into the summer between my junior and senior year of college i weighed in at about 210ish. by late july i was weighing in at 185-190ish. all this while essentially still eating large amounts of taco bell, burger king and arbys each day. i even had probably a large chocolate milkshake once every other day.
my calorie in take was definitely close to 3,000 a day but i was running / walking each day for about an hour followed by an hour at the gym lifting. i was basically eating crap as many would say and i agree it was crap i was putting in my body but i was also active as could be when it came to exercise.

You were also young. You can abuse your body in your 20's, try eating like that in your 40's.
All these 'new studies' that have come out are such old news. It drives me crazy. "This morning in the news doctors have found that exercising can help depression". "This morning in the news, doctors have found that eating a diet high in sugar is not healthy".
People forget our body is made of minerals and nutrients aside from water. Practically what's found in a soil. And to justify eating something that's been harvested but change its composition if not synthesize them? You can't fool mother nature or your body. It'll respond accordingly.
