Walk :I really have no idea because I have walked most the day many times when hunting. Ran; I use to run five miles every morning when in military. This morning I did about eight miles up and down high setting on exercise equipment; I am 67; so running is too hard on joints. I do it three days a week.
Longest walk in a day would have been 26-30 miles. That was a round-trip walk, as I had to walk out from my camping spot in the Bighorn Mountains to a ranger station to make a phone call, then walk back to camp -- all in the dark. I don't remember if it was 13 miles or 15 miles each direction. Then I walked out again the next morning leading pack horses loaded with elk.
I used to walk 10 miles every night for exercise, 5-6 nights a week. My goal was 50 miles per week, but I usually walked 6 nights, so did 60 miles. I did that for several years until I had a back problem which resulted in nerve damage to my right foot. After that I couldn't walk a block without limping so never got back into the long walks.
Edit: After reading texdav's post, yeah, the long walk above was done after a day of hunting, so it would have been a few miles further for that.
Marathoners end up traveling more than 26.2 miles: In gigantic races, they usually end up parking a mile away. Then, some start in the back of the pack (they have to run a mile just to get to the starting line). So, by the time they reach their car to go home, they've probably run/walked more like 29 or 30 miles. Marathoners need to give themselves more credit!
I used to do the March of Dime walks, so I would say my longest walk was about 20 miles. I forget how long they actually were.
When I was going to join the Army Reserve, I was running 2 miles a day to be able to get in. That isn't earth shaking, but the week before I was supposed to leave for Basic Training, I popped my knee out and then broke my foot. So 5 days later I was still running two miles with a sore knee and a foot wrapped in an Ace bandage!
In the summer I would walk from Park Slop to GP. About six miles three - four times a week. Lost about sixty pounds
