I wouldnt consider you guys "elders". I highly recommend a DVD on Tai Chi. I say this because I have considerable experience with it. Ive been teaching it for more than 15 years and have students who are 10-15 years your senior (a couple with non hodgkins lymphoma) who are making tremendous strides. Its very low impact and because you gear/control your breathing to the movements you'll build up a very good sweat. It will also help with your flexability and balance because you're muscles will get stronger.
I recommend:
"Sunrise Tai Chi" by Dr. Yang Jwing Ming (YMAA) - teaches the short form and easy to follow. "Tai Chi - 24 forms" by Paul Lam - another good DVD
Richard Simmons "Sweating to the Oldies". I have foot pain but can still do this while I can no longer do the treadmill.
