Did the "Top-down Narrows" hike in Zion a few months back (requires a permit). Technically it is about 16 miles (most of which is in the river) but in reality it was about 20. It was like walking on wet bowling balls the entire way. 100 degree air temp in some areas with 51 degree water temp. At my age (63) it was brutal but spectacular with the 1000' canyon walls on either side.
That I've recorded, I guess my half. BUT, I'm constantly walking everywhere in NYC, so who knows. I'm doing a Ragner in May and hope for a marathon next year, as well, so those will then be my longest.
Lots of serious walkers/hikers/runners here. It would be most interesting to find out how it all compares to the average person, the average Jane or Joe who doesn't go out of their way to read about exercising or responding to a forum on fitness.
I'm 58, and now getting into long walks, usually in an urban or suburban setting. (I don't use the word "hike" as that usually connotes nature treks and some climbing). I recently hit my longest, about 14.2 miles. I pick routes in the NY tri-state area, with the aid of google maps/street view, to be sure the route is walkable (sidewalks? dangerous neighborhoods?, etc.). My iPod tells me my longest took 39,000 steps. (I haven't calibrated the gadget for distance, yet, so I fumble with mapquest to figure out the actual miles).
I've always been a bit of a walker, just lately I've gotten more into it, especially with the priceless enhancement of listening to my iPod as I plod along!
My wife & I are avid hikers the last hike we were on we hiked 20 give or take. Keep in mind that's with a backpack holding about 20ish pounds of gear. My wife is 41 & I just turned 48.

That is my plan for next year. Wasn't in the cards for this year. Most in one day was probably on AT unicoi to campsite outside Trey Gap.
12 miles for a walk-athon. I have been doing 4-6 miles of recent and would love to work back up to that distance or longer.
