Have you ever really considered what it is and how it's made? Whey and casein proteins are simply the isolated proteins from dairy and milk (hence; food) and if you knew anything about physiology and nutrition, you'd know that many people can't or don't want to eat solid foods right after workouts and the whey proteins are digested very quickly, making them ideal in this case.
