I hope this is a good place to ask this question. I recently have started challenging myself with mud runs/obstacle course events. I have done the Dirty Girl, the Spartan and Tough Mudder so far. I have another one coming up in August, the Nightmare Challenge. So far I have just worn normal running shoes, I know they aren't best for these events. For anybody on here who participates in these kind of events, what specific shoes do you recommend? I've looked up some online but would like to get a variety of opinions. These events include a LOT of mud, water, rocks, obstacle courses and rough terrain. I am far from a professional or elite participant, but I am ready to really see what I can do and would like to be better equipped. Thanks in advance to anybody who can help me

I use trail running shoes for pretty much everything from kicking around to running on the street to running on trails to hiking. Merrell Mix or Saucony Peregrine semi-minimalist. I don't really like running with clunky shoes but they've got decent rock plates. I wouldn't somewhere with a bunch of sharp rocks but they're fine for the occasionally rock half buried in dirt you don't see and stomp on.

If you go with trail shoes make sure they aren't waterproof or anything close knowing you will be in water and mud you want them to be able to drain

Yes, this is a top priority. I want something that will not hold water and end up being heavy, but will also give me traction during muddy up hill battles.

My next course we swim 100 yards. My feet will be soaked
