I finally got on the scale and I have 18.4 pounds to lose. It is sad because as of November 2017, I had lost 17 pounds with five pounds to go. Since then, I have gained 13.4 pounds. It was a cold winter. I could not go outside. This is extremely alarming to me.
I have developed a sweet tooth which I am struggling to reign in. I have always struggled with my weight but walking on the weekends helped maintain my weight. I believe my age is also playing a factor.
My plan is to lose 5 pounds a month. I want to limit sweets to 1 day a week on Sunday. I also want to limit eating out to 1 day a week on Saturday. I need to cook the rest of the meals. I prepare most of my meals so it should not be so bad.
I achieved my goal of 10,000+ steps today. That was a very good workout for me. I was able to do it in slightly less than 90 minutes.
It is supposed to snow tomorrow. It looks like it will done in the morning. I will try to power walk for 10 minutes during lunch and 20 minutes during my commute home. I will try to get the 10,000 steps in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Let us see how I do. I will report back Saturday night. Wish me luck.
The best way to get off sweets is to stop eating sweets. Sugar becomes like a drug; in order to quit, you have to go cold turkey. There are bacteria in your system that feed off it, so when you quit, there will be a die-off, which will trigger cravings. Ignore them, and after about 2 weeks, you should be feeling better, and not having cravings. Eat appropriately (protein, lots of greens, salads, small amounts of whole-grain carbs), and your metabolic hormones will stay in balance, which also will help eliminate cravings.
Find alternative "treat" foods, to substitute for sweets. For example: 1/2 avocado stuffed with tuna salad, or avocado on your salad, or home-made guacamole on your hamburger patty, instead of mayo, could be a "treat" food. You have to psych yourself to find enjoyable foods that are not sweets.
Join a cheap gym, or get a cardio machine for your home, for those periods, when you can't go out and walk.
Also, you mention power-walking during lunch, at work. Consider going up and down a flight of stairs, as part of your power walk.
You can do this, OP! You just have to stop, and think about it awhile, and set your brain to a new way of thinking, to make those old cravings go away. It's definitely doable, especially with us rooting for you! You have a support group, here.

Thanks for the encouraging words and you are absolutely right. The sweets are killing me. Food is fine. I prepare most of my meals. I am not in a good place right now. The sweets help but not really.
I am not going to bother to weigh myself this week.
The weather has been terrible this week. However, I managed to walk 156 minutes. I have exceeded my goal.
My goal this week is to walk 150 minutes. I have already gone grocery shopping. It is way too cold to walk. I bought a small cake and two reduced calorie ice cream containers. The ice cream is 160 calories. I have come a long way with ice cream. I used to down a pint of Haagen Dazs in one sitting. I do not eat it anymore. My favorite believe it or not is McDonald's ice cream. I actually made a conscious decision to not buy the cake. For some reason, I found myself back there and picked one up.
All is not lost, the local bakery raised the cost of their cupcakes to a rate I find unacceptable. That's over. I will not be back.
So the goal is to only eat what I bought for the week plus take out for lunch on Saturday. That is it. I have been successful in the past doing this. The in between is causing problems for my waist line and bank account.
Thankfully, I will have access to a gym and pool in the Fall. I will be taking swimming lessons.

Ruth gave you some good advice here. You need to stop telling yourself stuff like:

You need to stop buying the sweets period and not "limit sweets to 1 day a week on Sunday." Just don't buy the stuff. Also, the amount of exercise you're doing is minimal. This means you have to go extra hard on the diet side.

I know. I will not buy any this weekend.
