I'm trying to lose the 20 lb I gained during my divorce last year. So I started the Atkins diet. To my shock I gained 8 lb. I must say I receive cortisone injection for my lower back problems. Four injection last year , two this year. The last one last month. How long stay cortisone in my system ?? My pain management doctor told me not to worry "it's only 8 lb." I'm afraid to eat something. What's going on ??

I have bum knees and get cortisone shots. my weight has been steady for the last 4-5 years. I agree with @calvert hall,
I don't think cortisone is the issue.
Occasional injections of steroids shouldn't significantly alter your metabolism or appetite.
Failures on the Adkins Diet are usually due to outright cheating or inadvertent cheating. Many prepared foods contain sugar /starch added to improve consistency, flavor etc. You wouldn't think a can of chicken soup would have any sugar in it.
Also., some people are very sensitive to carb intake. Generally it's said that you get ketotic when your intake goes below 40gm/d but many people need to go as low as 10gm.
