Not seeing a direct answer on Google. I started using a speed rope I found at the gym. I'm just doing boxer style skipping, no double understand, tricks, etc.
Just basic boxer skipping. I haven't measured this rope yet but think it might be a little short.
When you say you "found" it at the gym, does your gym provide speed ropes for all of its customers? Or, did you just decide to take someone's speed rope who may have accidentally left it? A good quality speed rope can cost between $50 - $80. Im sure the person who lost it will be looking for it. You should turn it in to gym management if you did indeed "find it". Also, if it is provided by the gym for its customers, what gym is this? Crossfit is the only gym I have ever belonged to that provided jump ropes.

Great job super sleuth! You solved the crime like a true minimum wage security guard. After I stole the rope I snuck back into the prison, heated my toothbrush handle up, sharpened it on the concrete cell floor and then went through the whole place cutting off every mattress tag I could find.
Just to put your mind at ease I have access to a gym at work. Under the staircase I found a speed rope mixed with all the gimmicky junk no one uses.
Now the speed rope has someone who cares for it and puts it back in the same spot after every use.
By the way thanks for addressing the actual question!

I'm 6'4". What length speed rope should I have?
Rule of thumb is your height plus 36", so 9'4" in your case. I'm 6'4", as well, but learned on a slightly too small rope, so I'm more proficient with ropes that are more like 9'2" or 9'3".

That is correct. The length of the rope should be your height plus 3ft. If you're ordering from somewhere that offers custom lengths, the length you provide them will be for the rope itself, not including the handles.

lol my outdated small town gym has jump ropes.
Anyway, OP, seems you got your answer.
