So I just added Spinning to my workout regime and I really like it a lot. I love the music, dark room, and cardio.
BUT, after one class last week - my right leg was hurting. We did a lot of standing sprints and I could feel my knee about to give out. I decided to work through it and did kickboxing the day after and so on and so forth.
I did a 'bootcamp' type class today; one I'm familiar with and again, my right knee was giving me pain. It's not just the knee though - if I lay down or sit for a few minutes - my entire leg hurts when I get up.
I'm 50 and thinking that maybe I'm going to have to give up Spinning? I'm wondering, though, if it could just be my hamstring since it goes all the way down my leg.
I really don't want to give up my workouts but am thinking maybe I need to layoff a couple of days and see what happens. Tomorrow is a rest day for me anyway.
I know no one can diagnose me over the internet - but was wondering if anyone had experienced similar problems after a particularly hard workout or Spinning?
For now ice it and do not do anything that will exert it. You probably strained it during spinning and then made it worse by trying to work though it. A very common mistake that I have made more than once. Do not do any exercise that involves your legs until it has stopped hurting completely. If it still hurts after a 3 or 4 days consult your doctor. More than likely your knee will be fine and you can continue to spin.
Do not use the foam roller on an injured leg.
Well you should rest until the pain starts to fade of course and see a doctor if it doesn't go away. In future classes ask the instructor to watch and make sure you are using proper form because of this incident.
Man, I wish I had some of those Epsom Salts right now! My knee feels better; now it's just my calf so I think that resting today definitely helped.
Thanks, guys.
