What is the best breakfast that I could eat in order to run my best 5k?
The race begins at 7am, so what time should I eat this breakfast?
Is it ok to have a cup of coffee beforehand?
Thanks.
The best way to figure this out is in training. Since the time is past for this, I would go conservative. Don't have a huge breakfast (toast or a bagel, at the most) and be sure to eat it early enough so that it has time to digest. If I were racing at 7AM, I'd be up around 5-5:30AM getting ready and having something to eat. That gives you 1-1.5 hours to digest. You can always have a larger meal post-race.
You can have a cup of coffee, especially if it stimulates the ol' lower intestines so you go to the bathroom and they are empty for the race. Having liquids such as coffee in your stomach while racing isn't as big of a deal as having solids sloshing around.

I agree with Broadbill. This should have been figured out in your training. What was your pre-training run routine? Did you eat before? Drink a little before? Can you recall what you had on the days in training when you ran your best time?

I'd say, eat breakfast around 5:00 am (always eat 2 hour or so before a race). Well, it's best not to eat too heavy. Maybe like a veggie omelet is good with orange juice (not milk). You need that orange juice for the glycogen and sugar for your muscles and such. Then after the race is over, have a larger meal to supplement what you lost during the run.
I would skip the coffee until after the race is over with. It will make you belch too much and make you a little too dehydrated also. Save the caffeine for after the race.
Good luck with you!! Hope you do real good! Let us know by Sunday or Monday....God bless....
