I am doing my research for an elliptical. I'm more worried about picking the right (brand) one for me and the shipping (to get the item in my house) and assembly. I've read reviews about missing pieces, screws not lining up etc.
I'm interested in a budget type, about $400-$600. I believe I prefer the rear drive which has more of a stride like walking as opposed to one that simulates a stepper. Any feedback would be appreciated.
From what I've read, it's difficult to find a well-made, durable elliptical for under $1000. The less expensive ones break down and have no warranty. Would you consider a used model that was still under warranty? I'd look in your local Craigslist.
You are right. The better made ones are not only more expensive, but heavier so harder to transport into the house from the carrier. Some freight carriers only deliver curb side. I have a bad back and shoulder so that leaves that out.
Will Sears set up exercise equipment they deliver? A friend had a problem with a tread mill she bought from them and even after two years, Sears replaced it under warranty.
Seems to be a "sale" on ellipticals at Sears right now.
I bought a "budget" elliptical with a 90 day return policy... yeah... it was returned. Spend the MONEY on one.. Those "budget" ellipticals are for "moderate use" only. I looked up the information on the companies website of the one I bought... and it said "Moderate use"... Kind of defeats the purpose.
Look in the paper/websites for a good used one.. I love the ones in the gym - they are about 4-5k each though. Ask around at the gyms as well.
We bought an Octane elliptical. We purchased it from a fitness store here in Colorado. They delivered it, brought it into the basement and set it up.
It was expensive (~ $2k) but we tried some of the other less expensive models in Sears, Dicks, Sports Authority and weren't satisfied.
We bought an Octane the same way. Our's ran us $4k. It's the higher end model and I love it.
We bought one at Sears probably 7 years ago, it fell apart, returned it and bought another one. That one wore out too. Not as great of quality as what we have now. Sears did not deliver, we had to get it home and hubby put it together. When it broke, we took it apart and brought it back since they have a guarantee.
