I live in NYC and see all these young trendy guys walking around with female pocket-books.
Not messenger bags---WOMEN POCKETBOOKS.
Whats that about?
The way I see it is why not. It gets really uncomfortable carrying around pants pockets full of change, keys, a bulging wallet and what ever else that we think we would need that we can shove in our pockets. The messenger bags that I have seen so far are huge and bulky looking. Back packs are in big also. So get something that is small and compact to carry the "basic essentals" for the moment.
What a strange thing to get hung up about.
Americans can be so silly about "looks" and perceived gender roles.
Carrying a wallet in the back pants pocket is a good way to get pickpocketed.
Don't men carry as much junk as women? I always have a book, phone, wallet, camera, comb, etc on me; why wouldn't men want a nice way to carry their junk, as well.
I would think that a shoulder bag would be effective and nice looking.
Then again, I live in Europe and travel a lot in Asia, so it is not unusual for me to see men with bags.
I agree that some manbags are kind of feminine, but I think many of them are very practical. Sitting on your wallet is bad for your spine, and what about your keys and phone? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to have a few other things with you, like a comb, some pens, your checkbook? Chapstick? I know ... chapstick in a manbag is half a step from full-on flamboyant homosexuality. Shocking!
I don't think it's gay at all. European guys carry them..... I can't imagine having shove all my stuff in my pockets, that would be annoying. To me, it's no different than me carrying a purse. To each their own.
I'm known to be a manly sort of man and I always take this butch little cowhide leather backpack with me when I'm out in the truck. It's got enough room for keys, wallet, sunglasses, pocket knife, passport, and a sandwich. I've already got enough junk in my jeans without loading up my pockets... and it's nobody's business if I'm carrying a bag, satchel, murse, whatever.
Unless you are a cowboy, traveler, or student the man bag is just too much. There is no need to take that much stuff with you. I have to admit though it is one step up from the fanny pack.
