Some girls do start puberty early & get teased by others. That could have a psychological effect on the child & in that case i agree with the waxing. I have seen it & kids can be cruel.

Even if an 8 or 9 year old has excessive pubic hair, who the heck is going to see it? Why would anyone know she has it, or her period, unless she screaming to the world to tell it. And boobies? We admired the girls who started early. We wanted to see what a real bra looked like, as opposed to the training bras!
I actually don't have a problem with eyebrow or leg waxing at 8 or 9 (though I personally wouldn't let my child do it). When I was that age, I was experimenting with Nair. It's the bikini wax that's bothering me.

I can't relate to this problem because my family is fair skined with light hair. BUT....if a child is hairy and it shows and embarasses them I have no problem with them doing whatever they want. People have been dealing with stuff like this forever in various ways, bleaching, shaving, etc. I dont' care. It's just too bad there are crazy parents who insist on their kids doing things because THEY don't like it.
I would say "hmmm??" but most likely this is about teasing or peer pressure and I *would* probably be one to consider this if I had a child who requested it. I'm pretty open to some of this stuff.
My friend got her period in the 4th grade. She was very early to mature and she did get alot of looks from girls, name calling etc. I remember even in the 6th grade it was NOT cool to be wearing a training bra (although I needed one!!) and I refused to wear one back in the day, instead I'd wear two t shirts. I recall even getting dressed for gym class in the 5th-6th grade was brutal on girls. In the 5th grade we had to get weighed in front of everyone and I think I weighed like 90some lbs and was really teased about being "fat". That was years ago (I am 34yo now). I can only imagine what it is like today if a girl is early to mature and has a small amt of hair coming out of her panties when changing for gym. Girls are brutal to eachother, MUCH more than boys I think. I can see a small bikini wax isn't a terrible thing, a discussion must go along with it. I'm not going to get judgmental on the parents who bring them in to these places, you never know the story behind it. Its likely just trimming the sides. Its not like they're asking for botox in the 4th grade here. I went to florida for spring break each year with my family (I had family and we'd visit them there) and I recall that I did trim, shave, what I needed to do quite young. Young girls do know its a fashion no no to have your pubs stick out the side of your bathing suit (panties or whatever).

The article says PRETEEN not necessarily pre-pubescent - there's a big difference. According to wikipedia, normal puberty in girls begins around age 10 and pubic hair is one of the first changes to occur. And since the article is mainly talking about girls aged 10-12, I don't think it's "sick" or outrageous that some of these girls are getting waxed. It does mention "some even younger" which I agree is extreme - but personally, I started shaving when I was 11. And yes, there was hair, not just peach fuzz. So I don't see a problem with it for the most part.
Unless she were fathered by sasquatch, I really don't see how an 8 year old would need a bikini wax. If you actually read the article, there is a woman who runs a salon who claims that girls should start waxing their "virgin" hair at 6, to ensure that it never really has a chance to ever develop into a real follicle, so the parents can save for college instead of setting the girl up for a lifetime of waxing.
I guess 'little princess' can start training for her future life as a porn queen the same time she starts going to school.
This article is depressing me, as the mother of a soon-to-be 4 year old girl.

Not that I'm trying to dictate how anyone raises their child but I think this is pretty messed up. Everyone needs to go through the phase where they actually know what their real natural body is like. After they're done developing, then they can decide what they want to alter. Getting a preteen into bikini waxing only promotes vanity, imo.
