The other day at our local shopping centre, I watched, a two or three year old girl sitting up on a high stool at an outside booth having here nails filed and nail varnish put on... what are these mothers thinking.. kids that age dont need a manicure and more importantly , they shouldnt be having nail varnish put on... surely nursery schools and schools dont allow this ..... its making them into wee adults fae too soon... and I never thought Id see this sort of thing in Scotland..this is what TV shows like TOWIE have started with nail extensions. fake spray tans and hair extensions.. poor kids...

A little polish wont hurt a child of that age and many mothers consider it a fun way to bond with their daughters. I think it's a little silly, but no harm done.

Yeah, I'm sure the kid wasn't getting a full manicure, just a little sparkly polish as a kind of playing dress-up.

I put nail polish on my daughter when she was younger.

I think there is a difference between a once in a while trip to the nail salon, and going there weekly with mom.

surely treating kids as young as young adults is wrong, I remember dressing up in high heels when playing with friends when young but not being taken by my mum to buy a pair.... I just dont get it at all..kids are growing up far too fast, and the shops arent much better with bra s for 7 year olds.

While I don't think a child that young should have their cuticles trimmed or fake nails applied or anything like that, I see no problem with taking them to get their nails painted. It's definitely not on the same level as hair extensions, bras, high heels, or those flippers and spray tans that pageant moms get for their daughters.

My daughter will be 5 in a couple of weeks and has had quite a few salon visits with mommy for manis and pedis. Besides, a LOT of spas have Princess Parties where you can have birthday parties for girls at the spa. It includes facials, manis, pedis, etc. you know, all things girls/princesses love. They just use organic/safe whatever it is on their nails. No chemicals are used.

Its no big deal.

What about nail polish is adult? It isn't sexualizing, it's just a way to decorate yourself. Now, I could see an argument there against reinforcing the idea that girls need to be always conscious of their looks or the princess mentality, but it takes more than a little nail polish to accomplish that.

I have seen this on Toddlers and Tiaras, etc. I do not agree with the things on that show and when I see the little 3 year olds on there having their nails done, I also do not agree with it.

Before people get in a tizzy, it is not the actual manicure or painting of the nails that I do not agree with, it is the adding of acrylic, etc.

These days it is not unusual - I see 5 yr olds with pierced ears, dyed hair, purple nail polish, etc.
Very tacky but that is the taste these days.
