It's expected of women. (I usually don't bother, unless I'm with a client.)

I wear makeup but I certainly dont "need" it. I wear it because I feel more polished and I tend to look young for my age so I wear it to look more mature.

Most of the women look great w/o makeup in those pix. Women look real without makeup. That's how I like 'em.

They look fine to me. When they choose these pictures they usually pick the worst angles and lighting so they can perpetuate the myth that women need makeup to look presentable.

Imagine if men were required to wear makeup, how silly would that be?

LOL can we say pretty, and scary?

The makeup topic comes up quite a bit here. One thing I have not seen many people point out is how makeup can be used to cover up blemishes and scars which would otherwise be distracting. If you were in a car accident and had a scar on your face, or deep dark acne scars, makeup can be useful. People want to know they are looked at, and not their scars. Nothing wrong with that.

Not many folks wear much makeup around here in Hawaii, it's too humid and makeup feels real nasty. We visited the mainland this summer and slathered on the moisturizer and lip balms. If we lived on the mainland, I could see using makeup every day, especially if it had moisturizers in it.

We also have a different social climate. Folks are pretty down to earth around here and if you get too dressed up folks wonder what you're up to. Socially, being humble is valued and it's not humble to dress up and wear a lot of makeup.

Folks are also in and out of the ocean a lot, it's a bit hard to keep on makeup while surfing.

I think women look fine without makeup but we are led to believe we NEED it to be pretty.

For those who think women don't need to wear makeup look at the pictures of actresses without makeup. The pictures are shocking which is why the tabloids publish them. While its obvious the female celebrities look better with makeup the same could be said for all women.
