This is probably the wrong forum, and the answer is probably just ask a tailor, but I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to add a welt pocket to a coat that has flap pockets without the addition looking horrendous? I would like to have welt pockets installed on the side of the existing flap pockets for this coat I just bought, but I forgot to ask the sales associate.
Also, would I just go to a tailor or would I need to find an actual seamstress?
I'm not sure. I figured a good tailor would have access to the needed fabric. I did think about that and considered contacting the designer, but I think I can live with the jacket as it is. Maybe next week I'll see about getting a sq ft of fabric, but it's not a pressing issue anymore. More of a slight annoyance.
Maybe. Flap pockets would have the flap come off and that is matching material. If there is deep hem, matching fabric can be taken from there.
I'm suspecting that it won't be a cheap job, but I haven't seen the coat. You are going to have to show the coat to a good tailor. It's not that horrible a job, except that the matching fabric has to be taken from somewhere, which involves time and labor, first to take the fabric and then to redo the area where the fabric was taken.
Depending upon the style of the coat, welt could be done with leather or suede.
