I love casual dresses during the summer...but you'll be hard-pressed to find me in one during the fall or winter, unless I'm going to a wedding or something. I am NOT going to be putting on any pantyhose, period. Maybe a pair of tights, but I'm still not much of a fan...leggings or jeans and sweaters in the fall/winter FOR THE WIN.
What's the difference in comfort between tights and pantyhose? I mean "pantyhose" just plain sound nasty and I have no idea why they were named that.... Regardless, hose and tights fit the same but you have to be a little more careful not to snag hose. If they fit correctly you shouldn't need to be constantly tugging on them anyway.
I no longer have a single dress in my closet. They never looked good on me. Too hard to fit with a big bust. No button shirts either, same reason. Last two weddings I went to, just wore nice pants/shirt. They were outdoor, anyway. I hate jeans too---had to wear them for work for 9 years so never opt for them now, except one fitted stretch version I have.
Now I live in shorts and stretch tops with 2-piece bathing suits for underwear. More comfortable than a bra. I think many pant-suits look matronly. Jump-suits I really liked---the clean single line also helped minimize bustiness. But they are hell in the bathroom!
I'd love to wear sundresses! Many wear them here. But never found any to fit me....
I don't know about others...but the bare-legged look is great when you are tan and don't have freckles....if you are pale, have freckles or "age spots" (don't worry, pretty much everyone gets them at some point) then you'll find it is quite unflattering to go without something on your legs to even out the skin tone.
I always hated the "suntan" shade of cheap hose because it was about 10 shades too dark for me and was very obvious but brands like Hanes have a much better range to choose from and can be very natural looking. Even so, I'd never wear hose with sandals or open-toed shoes!
You are entitled to your opinion, but as a lady who is 75% Irish, I find your comment on the offensive side. I'm sure that is not how it was intended. I am an extremely fair skinned, red head and am peppered with freckles all over my body. I have had many people (especially men) tell me that my freckles are very attractive. I have never tried to cover them up to even out my skin tone. It would look silly to have dark legs due to stockings and be pale everywhere else.
I embrace every freckle on my body, my red hair, and my Irish heritage!
I have a closet full of unworn dresses, bought for an occasion and then never worn again. Years ago when I worked in management, we had to wear dresses, pantyhose, and heels. Now I can wear whatever I want. At my workplace people show up in anything from dresses to jeans, and it's all allowed. I'm in the jeans camp, because my feet are happiest in sneakers, and they look silly when worn with dresses. In the summer I will wear skirts though, with bare legs and sandals.
I didn't realize people still wore pantyhose. Many have told me they are no longer in use. Someone also guffawed one day when she realized I was wearing a slip. (I rarely wear one, but this particular dress needed something)
I like both pants and skirts, but the skirts I prefer are maxis (long). I wear tights or leggings under skirts when it's cold. Maxi skirts are very forgiving when I'm bloated I like having pockets, so pants win out when I need some pockets.
I feel more comfortable in pants suits than dresses. I hate pantyhose because I'm always getting a run in them. Knee highs are much easier and more comfortable. I wear pants suits to work, church and parties. I wore a red pants suit to a dance party and people thought it was gorgeous. There are pants suits for mothers or the bride/groom.
You can also buy better-quality pantyhose that would be less likely to run, or tights, which don't usually run at all.
I didn't like pantyhose when I was younger. And while it is a bit better now, getting hose to match my skin tone is not particulaualry easy. Only available via special brands and special order. So glad it is no longer a thing and I missed that phase of the workforce.
The last time I wore pantyhose was at a funeral. Surprisingly, they were quite comfortable.
