Do you wear hats when out and about? What kinds of hats do you wear? I'm not talking so much about baseball caps or even floppy hats at the beach; more like fedoras or Panama hats and the like. I'd like to wear hats, but I rarely see any people wearing those kinds of hats in my area.
Always.
Bush hats with stampede strings.
It's not about fashion but protection from the sun.
I rarely see a white woman in church with a hat anymore although years ago Catholic women weren't supposed to go to church with their hair uncovered. Going to a Catholic school we had Mass every Friday. If we forgot our little lace doily things for our hair we had to bobby pin a tissue on our heads.
Yes, we (all girls school)wore berets that we called tams (tam o'shanter), nothing like a heavy wool beret in the Hawaiian heat. Demerits were the price to pay for forgetting your tam for Mass, most of us just stuffed our tams in our lockers, but there those idiots that failed to do this and were in trouble. Your memory of the bobby pinned tissue reminds me of our "dickies", an insert on our middy shirt (it covered the deep v on the blouse). Forget your Dickie and it was guaranteed that you would be wear a triangle of lined note for the day. Sheesh, our uniform was the traditional French Catholic schoolgirl's uniform ( a sailor suit with saddle shoes for pete's sake).
The Church I now attend has a traditional Latin Mass, so I wear a traditional lace piece. As as Catholic school survivor I still shiver when there is a Nun in the vicinity, DH laughs because he says I get a 'deer in the headlights' look.
Wear Stetson western style hats frequently. I sometimes feel conspicuous, but I like the feel of the hats and they look good on me. Big hat; now cattle!
Funny thing is, people give a lot of compliments..."I like your hat" sort of thing....but few have the courage to wear them.
Nice to keep out the sun and protect from weather, be it rain or snow.
Note: Very hard to find any place in the US which cleans and blocks a felt hat. Disappearing art, it seems.

I Googled it. My town produces a lot of hats, including a lot of men's felt hats, so I was curious. A quick search didn't turn up any local hat cleaners yet, but here's a site that has a national list of people who still clean and restore fine men's hats. The list includes Canada, as well.
Straw cowboy hat in summer, felt cowboy hat in winter.
