I know that this topic is debatable. In the US, the population is slightly against speedos. However, I am curious. I would like to hear about how acceptable it is for men to wear speedos if they are fit or thin. (I know it would be totally out of the question for overweight men). If you are fit or thin, have you worn a speedo in public? What happened? As long as you do not draw too much attention on yourself, did people seem to notice or even make comments? What part of the country is this? I do NOT want this to be a debate about the speedo. I have heard the pros and cons before. I want to know what has happened to men who wear them.

No matter how good your body is, don't wear one.

Sophialee - That comment is debatable. However, I just want to hear from the fellas that have worn them.

Well my neighbor wears one all the time and everyone in the neighborhood talks behind his back about it, not in a good way either.

I know in Europe they are fashionable, but in the USA they are pretty much a joke.

I'll let the men answer you now, altho there aren't a lot of them that post in this section.

It's silly that women can wear bathing suits that are little more than pasties and a string, while speedos are a "joke," but double standards in fashion are nothing new. If you are very fit, I recommend you wear short, fitted trunks like Daniel Craig did as James Bond. If you look like this, not one woman will mind.

I swam in Master's Swim programs for years. In lanes next to men wearing Speedo-style suits. Never bothered me.

In a pool, in a lap-swimming environment they are pretty much the norm.

At the lake or beach? Not so much.

I must say, as a female though, that I am kind of tired of the "so-baggy-they-look-like-they-are-about-to-fall-off" style. I really hate those when they go below the knee. I'd be a fan of fit men going for sort of a retro-50s style or the classic "boy short" style.

Something like this:
